AIK's CEO Thomas Edselius says the match against Hammarby in the cup will break all-time attendance records. 'We expect it,' he says. The Swedish cup record of 35,087 from 1944 is within reach, but AIK's ticket sales are approaching 34,563 sold tickets. Edselius explains that the extra pressure is due to the long time until the match and the intense interest. The capacity at Friends Arena is around 40,000, but one floor must remain closed due to renovations. 'We've had matches with similar pressure, but what stands out now is that it's so long until the match and yet so intense,' he says. AIK's ticket sales have been intense since Hammarby's promotion to Allsvenskan, with six derby matches in the league. The first showdown in the cup will be on March 7. Tickets sold out in just two hours when Hammarby's fans got the chance to buy. Edselius is satisfied with the current figure and believes it will be sold out. 'I definitely think it will be sold out,' he says. AIK's sales have been part of a trend in the capital, where fans crave cup derbies more than other matches. The inauguration of Friends Arena with 43,000 spectators and the last match at Råsunda against Napoli were also strong, but now it's the cup that stands out.
