AIK have pulled off a major signing from Nigeria. The 18-year-old midfielder Oreoluwa Agbenla has agreed terms until 2030 and will initially play for the youth team before making his senior debut.
What happened?
AIK’s recruitment chief Miika Takkula praised the new midfielder’s maturity and versatility. Oreoluwa Agbenla is described as a box-to-box player with strong game intelligence and a balance between attacking and defensive contributions. He’s also clinical in the opponent’s penalty area, making him a complete option in midfield.
According to Takkula, AIK had scouted Agbenla since early 2025. The club’s talent scouts got a closer look at him during Gothia Cup when his former club participated in the tournament.
Why it matters for AIK
For AIK, this is about securing the future. With a contract until 2030, the club has locked in a promising talent who has already shown maturity and technical skill. Agbenla turns 19 in August and has the potential to become a key player in AIK’s rebuilding over the coming years.
AIK currently sit 7th in Allsvenskan with 48 points after 30 matches. The team has scored 40 goals but conceded 33, giving a goal difference of +7. With 27 points behind leaders Mjällby AIF, more performances like this are needed to challenge for the top spots.
What comes next?
Agbenla will spend his first months in AIK’s youth team to adapt to Swedish football and the club’s style of play. After that, a gradual integration into the senior squad awaits, where he could earn minutes in Allsvenskan.
AIK’s management see huge potential in the young Nigerian. Takkula stressed that Agbenla already has the maturity required to quickly step up to senior level. If everything goes to plan, he could become an important piece in AIK’s future success.
