AIK suffered a historic and chaotic 5-6 defeat to IF Brommapojkarna on Saturday. After a goalless first half, the game exploded with eleven goals scored in the second period, setting a new record for goals in a single Allsvenskan half. The total of eleven goals is also the highest in an Allsvenskan match since 1997.
Simon Strand put Brommapojkarna ahead in the 48th minute. Abdihakin Ali equalised for AIK seven minutes later, but the visitors then took control. Between the 59th and 70th minutes, Kamilcan Sever scored twice, Wilmer Odefalk once and Anton Kurochkin once to build a staggering 1-5 lead, exposing AIK's defensive frailties.
Rally ends in despair
Taha Ayari pulled one back to make it 2-5 in the 73rd minute. Then Sixten Gustafsson exploded with two quickfire goals, the first in the 81st minute and another two minutes later, suddenly making it 4-5. In the final minute of added time, Johan Hove equalised for 5-5 in what seemed an incredible comeback. The joy was short-lived. Seconds later, Mads Hansen scored a 5-6 winner from an Oliver Zandén assist, securing Brommapojkarna's first-ever Allsvenskan victory over AIK. The decisive goal came after AIK lost possession in their own attacking move.
Manager José Riveiro took responsibility for the collapse. "The second half is impossible to explain," he said. "I take responsibility as a coach for what happens in the second half, it's my fault." Goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt was equally blunt. "It can't look like this," he stated. "Conceding six should not happen. We have to be honest with ourselves and look at what happened."
The statistics show an AIK side that dominated with 68 percent possession and 25 shots, but defensive errors and the opponent's clinical finishing proved fatal. Brommapojkarna scored with six of their seven shots on target. The defeat extends a poor run of form, with AIK now recording LLDLD in their last five matches. The club remains ninth in the Allsvenskan table with 33 points from 23 games. Striker Johan Hove, who scored his eighth goal of the season in the match, is the team's top scorer.
The response must be immediate. AIK host IFK Göteborg at Strawberry Arena next Saturday, October 17th. AIK won the last meeting with Göteborg 2-1 away back in July.
