AIK have now officially said goodbye to Jere Uronen. The Finnish defender leaves the club after just half a year in the black and yellow shirt.
What happened?
AIK announced on Sunday that Jere Uronen, 32, has been sold to Greek side Atromitos. The deal is now complete and the player will continue his career in the Greek league. AIK’s recruitment chief Miika Takkula thanked Uronen for his contributions during spring 2025 and wished him the very best going forward.
AIK covered Uronen’s entire salary during his previous loan at Atromitos. The current sale is described as a break-even move for the club. During his time at AIK, Uronen made eight Allsvenskan appearances before now leaving for good.
Why is Uronen leaving AIK?
Uronen joined AIK in January 2025 and quickly proved his worth. Despite the short spell, he established himself as a reliable defensive presence in the side. Now, however, he has chosen to continue his career in Greece, where he spent an earlier loan period.
AIK’s leadership has chosen not to comment on the underlying reasons behind the sale beyond confirming it is a permanent transfer. The move nonetheless gives AIK room to reshuffle ahead of the rest of the season, which is currently under pressure.
What does it mean for AIK?
With just four points after two matches, AIK currently sit seventh in Allsvenskan. The side has scored four goals and conceded three this season, holding a positive goal difference. AIK’s next fixture is away at Djurgårdens IF on 16 August 2026.
Losing Uronen may feel heavy for AIK, but the club has already shown it can adapt quickly to change. The team now has a chance to strengthen the squad ahead of the next match and the challenges still to come in Allsvenskan.
