AIK's hopes of signing Bosnian international Samed Baždar have been dashed after tough negotiations with Real Zaragoza collapsed on Thursday. According to reports from Spanish media, talks have now completely broken down, leaving AIK in a precarious position early in the Allsvenskan season.

What went wrong with Baždar's AIK move?

Samed Baždar, 24, was set to leave Zaragoza after failing to secure regular playing time. AIK had shown strong interest and talks had reached an advanced stage, but sources close to the situation now report that negotiations have collapsed entirely. Spanish outlet Periodico Aragon states the transfer is now dead in the water unless a miracle occurs within the next few days.

Baždar, signed by Zaragoza for three million euros in summer 2025, spent part of the spring on loan in Poland. His chances of regular game time in Allsvenskan with AIK had therefore been seen as a lifeline – but now only question marks remain.

Why does this matter for AIK?

AIK currently sit seventh in Allsvenskan with four points from two games, 1 win and 1 draw. The side has scored four goals and conceded three, but now risks missing out on a potential attacking upgrade. Baždar could have provided the extra cutting edge AIK has lacked so far this season.

With just three points separating them from leaders IF Elfsborg and a tough away trip to Djurgårdens IF on August 16, every reinforcement counts. AIK's squad already has four players sidelined: Andreas Redkin, Eskil Edh, Ibrahim Cissé, Martin Ellingsen and Stanley Wilson.

What happens next?

Baždar has yet to rejoin Zaragoza's pre-season preparations after the 2026 World Cup and has openly stated he hopes the situation can change soon. AIK's management has not yet officially commented, but it's clear the club must now look for alternative solutions.

For AIK, the question remains: will they act fast to fill the gap in attack, or risk going into upcoming fixtures without an established striker? One thing is certain – AIK's transfer window has just become far more complicated.

AIK currently sit seventh in Allsvenskan with four points, 1 win and 1 draw from two games and recent form DW.
