AIK and Bersant Celina part ways
AIK and Bersant Celina have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The 29-year-old forward leaves the club after three seasons and 16 goals in 93 appearances. AIK currently sits 7th in Allsvenskan with 48 points from 30 games (13 wins, 9 draws, 8 losses).
What happened?
Celina joined AIK in 2023 on loan from Dijon and made the move permanent in January 2024. During his time in Stockholm, he became a key player, scoring 16 goals in 93 matches. AIK's recruitment manager Miika Takkula explained that both parties tried to extend the contract but couldn't reach an agreement.
What did Celina say?
"The last three years have been the best of my life. It has been an honor to represent AIK as a player. All good things have an end, but the best memories last forever. Thank you from the derby king Bersant," Celina wrote in his farewell message.
What's next?
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Celina will now join Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on a three-year deal. AIK now faces a new season where they need to replace Celina's goal-scoring ability. The team is currently without Andreas Redkin, Ibrahim Cissé, Martin Ellingsen, and Stanley Wilson.
